Austro-Hungarian Kiddush glass from the late 1800s. According to the Jewish tradition to sanctify the Sabbath, the wise men composed a text of the Kiddush to be recited over a glass of red wine before the Friday evening meal. The glass is held in the right hand 10 cm above the table.  You pass between the diners reciting the text  sacred.
