The artist's name is stamped on the bottom, MC, Maria Semenova, the mark of Russian silver 84, the date 1889, Moscow, master assayer IK, Krapivin. Maria, on the death of her father, BC, Vasili Semenov (known for niello), successfully took over her laboratory, one of the few women to own one. She is known for having been able to innovate ornamental objects of common use (such as crockery) enhancing them with the skilful use of multicolored enamels, a palette of flowers painted in a Baroque way, leaves and animals.
