Rare cover (Gospel book) of the Russian prayer book in gilded silver, before the revolution, with 5 oval enamels from Rostov, a city north-west of Moscow, known since the 18th century for the production of enamels. The “finift” enamels, from the Greek luminous stone, were created by Rostov artisans for biblical scenes, portraits, narrative works on a copper base. In the center of the cover the resurrection of Christ. On the sides the 4 Evangelists: St. Luke with the bull, Matthew with the angel in the upper left, John with L'Aquila and Mark with the lion The artist was Nikolay Dubrovin, who worked in Moscow between 1822 and 1855. The stamped date is 1839 with the engraving of St. George slaying the dragon in force in Moscow since 1741. The silver also bears the stamp of 84 zolotnik. Size: 26cm wide for 43 cm high. A similar "Gospel Book" can be admired in the Kremlin museum, enamels in Rostov and in the Orthodox monastery in Corfu.
